Despite the fact that much of the world is moving towards streaming and digital music, Adele still manages to make some impressive sales. Her most recent album, 30, became the first album to have sold more than a million copies in the United States in the last year.
30has sold more than a million albums in traditional album sales in the United States. This includes CD, vinyl, LP, cassette and digital album download. Billboard reports that Adele’s 30 reached the one million mark on December 6, less than three weeks after it was released worldwide on November 19. 30 sold 692,000 copies its first week. Another 225,000 copies were sold the following week. After Taylor Swift’s Folklore, 30 is the first album that has achieved this feat. Folklore was released in July 2020. It reached one million copies during October that year.
This shows how amazing it is, and how much Adele’s 30 was anticipated. It’s not often that an album crosses the million mark in the last few years due to the rise of music streaming. Only three albums were able to reach that milestone in 2019, Billie Eilish’s When All Fall Asleep. Swift’s Lover and Harry Styles’s Fineline.
Adele’s influence goes beyond a million albums.
The world is hooked to 30,. Adele is also bringing back some traditional streaming practices. Spotify removed the default shuffle button from the album page. They did this because Adele insisted that the order of the songs tells their story.
